I saw on another blog a great video about the rate of change in our current situation. I know it is American-centric, but I think the underlying premise about the rate of change in information is important. Those of us in bioinformatics are sitting on the crest of that wave and it is very clear to us that what we know today will be completely subsumed by TONS of more data in just a few short years… And how to you possibly hope to educate students in that time frame??
We think about this a lot as we consider our place in the world–how do you keep up with that rate of change? Traditional publishing is not capable of handling it. And even the software models and internet infrastructure are going to need to change. We’re trying a new model. But it’s not easy.
