The Sasquatch Genome paper is out
Um, sorta. I can’t find the sequence in GenBank–ahem.
LOLWUT? Buy your own journal, publish the Sasquatch Genome. prweb.com/releases/2013/… denovojournal.com/#!special-issu…

There’s much chatter right now, but nobody has actually read the paper. I am hoping a qualified science journalist takes a crack at it, because I’m unwilling to pay them (since they bought the journal) to see this thing.
EDIT to add things as they come along:
Dear denovojournal.com, my paper describes the midi-chlorian genome of Mace Windu. Why yes, I do want the Open Peer Review option!

Sasquatch DNA paper is nice illustration of issues @girlscientist and I were talking about at #scio13vanity: bit.ly/XAefHa #scio13

MT @latkarenkaplan #SasquatchDNA study is too good for existing scientific journals, so they invent a new one? themadskeptic.com/2013/02/ketchu… …

@mem_somerville @nutsci “I thought I might get access to the sequences at least from GenBank” Try Taxon “Biggus footus”

Surprised @illumina aren’t co promoting the sasquatch genome paper – massive day for science

One person admits to having the paper:
I worry for my sanity. I just paid $30 to read the Sasquatch genome paper. #feelssowrong doubtfulnews.com/2013/02/ketchu…
— carlzimmer (@carlzimmer) 13. Februar 2013
I asked for the sequence accession numbers:
@mem_somerville No accession number, because Sasquatch’s taxon could not be identified. (Lamest bioinformatics excuse ever.)
— carlzimmer (@carlzimmer) 13. Februar 2013
@girlscientist @nparmalee @michaelhoffman @leonidkruglyak sure- cause GenBank NEVER has to create new taxIDs. #weknowALLthespecies
— deannachurch (@deannachurch) 13. Februar 2013
Konrad Karczewski apparently got a copy too, and is tweeting some initial assessment.
So far Twitter’s geneticists have found panda, cow, rhesus monkey, cat, & human DNA in the sasquatch genome. No dolphin? LOOK HARDER, PEOPLE

.@carlzimmer @leonidkruglyak Oh! There’s video footage from Ketchum of a sleeping sasquatch! #isotired #bigfootdna cryptomundo.com/bigfoot-report…

WTF? DeNovo (owned by the #sasquatchgenome people) charges $250 for an open-access publication but $1500 for a subscription-access one?
